Assessment/Accreditation
Academic achievement is important for our pupils, especially in the context of a rounded holistic development. Physical, intellectual and emotional wellbeing are of equal importance in enabling the pupils to develop into confident individuals, in-line with our aims as a school. Traditionally it has been challenging to evidence this developing maturity. Every pupil has an individual education plan (IEP) where we can monitor and comment on emotional gains.
Lower School
Assessment in the Lower school is based on measuring the progress in the core areas of reading, writing and numeracy. This is measured using P-levels for pupils working towards National Curriculum level 1. NC levels are used for the 30% of pupils working at NC level 1 or higher. Progress is measured using the B-Squared Connecting Steps Assessment Tool and we are looking to expand our assessments beyond the core areas into subjects such as Art and PSHE. This year we will be using the CASPA Comparison and Analysis of Special Pupil Attainment tool so we can view the progress of our pupils against their peers.
Seniors Programme
For students aged 16 to 19 we have a range of accredited study units. Students currently access the AQA unit award scheme as well as the Equals Moving On Award and ASDAN programmes.
