A Camphill Community

The Sheiling School is a Camphill community, akin to over 100 other communities in the UK and worldwide. Camphill, as an association of allied, but independent, community-based social endeavours, was originally founded in the 1940s and built on firm values of mutual support, addressing the needs of vulnerable individuals and recognition of each individual's spiritual and cultural integrity.

The Michaelmas festival – harvest gatheringAs a school community, our key focus is on providing high quality education and care, embedded within a rich and supportive school community. The definition and boundaries of what we term “community” have changed over recent years from focusing on a fully live-in co-worker community to include a broad range of stakeholders who feel connected to and engaged in our work.

All those who work with the childrn directly, or support the work indirectly are included as members of the school community, irrespective of status. We are committed to ensuring all our stakeholders – pupils, parents, volunteers, co-workers, employees, governors and supporters – have a voice in creating and participating in the school’s future.
