Curriculm
Education is based on the Steiner Waldorf Curriculum, a broad and balanced developmental curriculum, grounded in the stages and milestones of child development. The Steiner curriculum includes all the subjects found in the national curriculum, the main difference is in when and how certain subjects are taught.
The Sheiling School curriculum extends beyond formal lessons into the life the pupils experience in the houses, which enables learning in school to be supported and reinforced outside of school. The curriculum is inclusive and holistic, taking into account the whole
child with respect to their physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual needs.
Subjects are arranged and presented to support the natural development of each child’s potential in terms of thinking, feeling and willing. Younger children learn through doing, so subjects are presented with an emphasis on movement, imagination and experience. In the middle years children live strongly in their feelings and the curriculum is presented in an artistic and creative way to meet children at their level. In adolescence, the possibility of objective thinking can be awakened and the curriculum emphasises discovery and the sciences.
The Steiner curriculum is adapted and differentiated according to the pupils’ needs and is complemented by contemporary approaches from mainstream and special education in order to meet the broad educational needs of each pupil.
