We
offer a clear balance between whole class, small group and individual teaching. Classes
are usually grouped according to age and a broad and rich curriculum is
taught, based on the Steiner Waldorf School curriculum.
We aim that the class teacher remains with their class for a number of years, providing the necessary continuity and security for
the
pupils.
A range of differentiated teaching styles
are used, from regular whole class work on topic themes (main lessons) to
small-group and
individually tutored work, e.g. literacy, communication, numeracy. A
range of specialist lessons are taught including art, gym, choir and
eurythmy. Appropriate
levels of support for each pupil are available.
There is an emphasis on teaching through a
range of artistic and practical activities, supporting the topic themes
studied. Handwork, painting,
modelling, gym and swimming help to develop the whole child.
The pupils' social engagement with their peer group
is encouraged as much as possible. This is
supported by week-long residential class trips to the New Forest or other
destinations during the summer term. |
