Transition Phase
In preparation for moving into the Seniors Programme, pupils aged 14 to 16 are increasingly offered
opportunities to integrate with the older students. In school there is more variety in the delivery of lessons, with less reliance on the main class teacher and a greater emphasis on practical experiences and life and independence skills training. Taster sessions of Seniors Programme activities are offered, including visits to the various practical workshops and invitations to meals and social events organised for the senior pupils.
Formal life skills learning opportunities take on a greater importance and more opportunities are introduced, including regular shopping in Ringwood, road safety and using public transport. While the pupils remain in the Lower School houses during the Transition Phase, they are increasingly called upon to be more independent and to be examples to their younger peers. The aim, as for the Seniors Programme, is for the pupils to feel safe, become more confident and to be able to make appropriate choices.
