Volunteers: Information
Each year we recruit around 30 young (and not so young!) live-in volunteers from the UK and around the
world. Recent groups have included Danish, German, Brazilian, and Korean nationalities. Being a volunteer is demanding, but highly rewarding for those willing to engage in the work and to build strong relationships with our pupils and with each other. Our main intake of volunteers is in late August, for the start of the school year. We usually like people to commit to staying for 1 year, but we can sometimes be flexible. There are also options to stay longer to undertake training and to take on more responsibility.
If you have enthusiasm, energy, an interest in people, openness to working with children with learning disabilities, speak good English and feel like a real challenge then read on...
We have compiled an Information Sheet for Volunteers to help prospective volunteers understand how we live and work together at the Sheiling School. The information sheet will tell you more about volunteering. It is important that you read the information very carefully before applying so you know what to expect!
Rosa Balbin, our volunteers appointments coordinator, will be able to answer any questions about
immigration rules (for non-EU citizens), the types of checks we need to carry out on applicants, training opportunities and any other questions you have. Rosa can be contacted by e-mail: rosa.balbin@sheilingschool.co.uk or telephone: 0044 (0)1425 482407 or fax: 0044 (0)1425 479536. More information about volunteering is also available from the Camphill England and Wales website.
If you wish to apply please complete the Volunteer Application and Medical Form. You can either print it and send it to us by post, or send it by e-mail to Rosa.
