Workshops

Our practical workshops provide opportunities for older pupils to practice skills, develop confidence and build stamina while experiencing meaningful work. The workshops provide opportunities for the functional application of literacy, communication and numeracy skills. Older students are offered work experience with partnership organizations such as the Lantern Community and Avon Heath Country Park.Weaving workshop – it’s finished!

Shop: incorporating regular deliveries of milk, Sturts Farm yoghurt and vegetables. Encourages independence and application of number.

Green Woodwork: based in the school’s woodland, includes activities such as sawing, splitting, stacking and charcoal making. Promotes stamina, physical strength, accuracy and motivation.

Garden: growing vegetables and potting plants in the Sheiling garden. Opportunities for regular activities, e.g. compost making. Promotes a range of skills according to ability.

Estate Work: caring for the school’s large estate. Seasonal jobs: leaves in Autumn, pulling brambles and planting trees in winter, Rhododendron clearance, etc. Promotes stamina, physical strength and motivation.

Other workshops include Weaving and Hand Crafts.
